Poem: "Remains" *

"Remains" *

Standing in the spot
it is dark now
nightfall has descended
upon the subtle remains
of my broken heart

There was a man
who frequented
the local nightclub
who knew the
daughter of a woman
who was owed money

He walks inside
sits at the bar
eyes me suspiciously
for a moment

I sit idly
as the minutes pass
as the words come
from a familiar place

The bed is cold
and I'm tired
this place has
no warmth left

Head in my hands
pictures of you
all scattered
on the bed

Blood on my shirt
staggering to the sink
turn the faucet on
the water running

I collapse to the floor
welcoming unnatural sleep
as the void seeks fervent embrace
once more.
