Poem: "Mirage"

"Mirage"

"I could rage and you'd bring rain, until you get to me on my morning side." - Sara Barailles

The subtle moon light illuminates
the gentle contours
of your perfect face

I toss and turn
restless
in the same empty bed

As thoughts of you
flicker and dance
in my head

I've waited here
for what has seemed like
an eternity

I have longed for your touch
my lips have ached in anticipation
of your kiss

Will you think ill of me
if I give into your charms
without the least of resistance?

Every time I close my eyes
I can feel you near
your scent lingers in my memory

So take me now
I ask you
away from all this

Fill me up
with your beautiful ocean
and let the seduction
begin

As you walk towards me
with a knowing look
and that same
disarming smile

As you whisper,

"I've been here all along, darling
desperately holding onto you
so the seduction can overtake us."

Poem: "Beside You"

"Beside You"

Night fades away
ever slowly
as dreams of you
linger

Your face haunts me
where ever I go
every time I close my eyes
I see you there
with me

Your scent clings to the pillow
the memory of your aching touch
imprinted my naked, desperate body
never forgotten but forever
lovingly remembered

The stars may shine
with heavenly brilliance

The moon may illuminate
with subtle light

The rain may fall
wet and expectant

But all the wonders of the world
all that I have ever known
or hope to believe or see

Pales beside the beauty
that is you

I need you

I love you

I want you

My darling
beloved
come closer to me

And let me share
the secret desires
that have been locked away for so long

Yet you stand there
unclothed and longing
holding the key

Wearing nothing
but a smile
and those lips
parted

Anticipating the rapture
that is soon to take place

I love you, darling
how I have always loved you
and I love you still.

Poem: "The Bridge of Deceit"

"The Bridge of Deceit"

As I walk along silently
the morning sun
shines brightly
warming my back

Thoughts of you
fill my mind
as I try in vain
to forget the pain

Of losing you

Your face
tasting your kiss
your perfect mouth
the shimmer
in your beautiful eyes

You're gone now
fleeting like the warmth
of the sun
moments before
sunset

Its final rays fading

If I close my eyes
for just a second
I see you again
in all your grace

Lead me out of this wilderness
away from this aching loneliness
and cruel heartbreak
dare to burn

The bridge of deceit
that divides us
and threatens our very
breath

Close your eyes, dear
and come with me
once more

Even if it's just
for the fondness
of old times' sake.

Poem: "Floating"

"Floating"

The door is closed
wind outside is cold
as it rises, howling
the breath in me
shallow and unsure

The past is locked away now
floating under the bridge
crumbling and dead
everything blurs

Blood on your hands now
as a smile invades your face
I never knew you could
didn't think it would come to this

As the rain falls
you watch silently
as the broken remains
of my heart drift along
barely floating above
the water's surface.

Poem: "Let It Fall"

"Let It Fall"

Fragile
like broken glass
shattered but somehow
still my heart beats

In the aftermath
of our inevitable parting
the pain cuts like a knife
forcing me to my knees

I could try to forget
what you do to me
baby
the lure your beauty
has over me

The temptation
too much
no matter where you are
my walls come down

I'm naked and vulnerable

But the room is empty
you're gone now
the bed we shared
is cold and lifeless

The rain hits the window
my fingertips trace outlines
against it silently
longing, waiting, hoping

I feel tears
run down my face
as I close my eyes
and imagine you with me
here and now

Let it fall
oh how I love you still
let it fall

Let it all fall down on me.

Poem: "Make Believe"

"Make Believe"

In the same room
the silent walls
I lay on the bed
lost and broken

Oh, it's no use now
No matter how I try
to forget
still, the tears come
wet and perfect

I let you in
like a fool
I let you in
just because

I'd rather break
a mirror
and have seven years
bad luck

Because baby, how I thought
we had
we had
something special

Only to be let down
and left behind again
not sure of anything anymore
I'm not afraid of losing

I'm barely breathing
and you do it over again
when you promised
you'd never

Where could I run for cover
to escape from you, love?
you've become a part of me

Even after all this
I couldn't ever hate you
my darling

I just wish
oh how I wish
the story could have had a happy ending

Instead of being sweet make believe

Somewhere inside
I'm dying again
as the desperate ghosts
within are dancing

The last kiss is always
the most bittersweet.

Poem: "Pieces"

"Pieces"

Tell me again
fill me with your lies
baby

Open the wounds
water under the bridge
make me the fool once more

The same old
tired thing again
I'm drowning

Deep and falling
uncovered and bare
I'm bleeding, darling

And you cut me open
again
I'm not scared
of the dark

Come gentle loneliness
with your perfect arms
you can't drag me down
my love

You can never
stop me
from shining
my Sun

The footsteps you leave behind
have killed me over and over
again

But still, I love you

I'd rather be left
barely breathing
my sweet morningside

Save me
oh my beautiful liar
how I need you

In the shadows of twilight
in the last loud beating
of my fragile heart

Can you hear her
call your name?

Can you?

Poem: "Linger"

"Linger"

You've been gone
awhile now
it feels so empty here
without you

Sitting here
trying to find
the words to say
still you're gone

I've been chasing shadows
until the day you came
and walked in my door
and brightened everything

With your beautiful rays
warming my cold, desperate heart
smile for me now
touch my soul

Hold me close to you
against the world
you are my shield
my protection

If I close my eyes long enough
I can see you again
if only for awhile

The world is wide open again
and our hearts are full of possibilities
and we are young again

The darkness fades
when I'm in your arms
nothing else matters
but this moment with you

I lean against the window
and watch the rain fall
its gentle pitter patter

The memory of you
I hold onto you
you've consumed me
taken a piece of my soul
and my heart is out there
with you

I can't let go
what I feel
is too strong
too much

Allow me fall again
one more time
into you
let our paths intertwine
and permit the perfect sweetness
that is your passion
cover me, wrapping me up

Linger awhile

I will wait for you
my love
until you
come back to me

Until then
I lay here
in this lonely bed

Wishing for you
please
let your beauty
invade me again
and linger awhile

Just linger awhile.

Poem: "Escape"

"Escape"

The sun shines
as dawn breaks
former night recedes
from view

Its faded promises
and dark secrets
burned away
in glorious light

You hold forever
in the palm
of your hand

Feeling your
warmth against me
leaves me with an aching
deep inside

A beautiful longing I never knew existed

Hold me close now
and whisper your dreams
envelop me in your perfect arms
and never let me fall

Never let me go

My darling, my beloved

All the stars in the night sky
that streak and sparkle
across heaven's face

They all pale beside you

And the devotion that I feel
what we share between us
will be our sweet escape

As the last remaining shards of light
at sunset illuminate you
and the joy in your heart
can be heard
in quiet song

Now and forever
yesterday and today
and long into tomorrow

I will love you with everything I am
and everything I ever hope to be.

Poem: "Chasing The Sun"

"Chasing The Sun" *

If I look inside
and touch the dark
empty spaces
and feel cold

The clouds overhead
silently wait before
a storm that never comes
as the world
holds a collective

In the morning
you stand outside my door
waiting expectantly

You smile
as you take my hand
and whisper hope
into my unsuspecting ear

Beside you
I feel whole
without you
the ravages come
like vultures

I would do
anything for you
you warm my heart
and I am forever indebted

Though we cannot
be together
I shall be devoted
to you, beloved

I will never be afraid
to be the star
chasing your Sun.

Poem: "The Angel"

"The Angel"

She looks down
at her fallen beloved
as he struggles to breathe

"I can save you still," the angel
whispered softly as she knelt down
her shimmery wings barely touching the ground

And her lover smiled, without a word
and he caressed her cheek
wiping the tear that fell upon
her beautiful face

As they kissed
for the last time
warmth filled her
once more
as he held her close
slowly dying

In the final moments
of their beautiful parting
she stood over him
and loving plucked a feather
placing it over his heart

As she leaned in
and whispered in
his ear:

"You may be gone
but never forgotten
and forever remembered
in the chambers of my heart
and soul"

As she took to the sky
and flew away
across the face of perfect
weeping Heaven.

Poem: "The Other"

"The Other"

"Once in the madhouse they came like specks of cinnamon." - Anne Sexton

The seconds tick away
as I glance at my watch
impatiently
waiting for you

There is a man
who loves you
he came by today
and asked

"What is it you want with her?"

I smiled, but said nothing
Your beloved does not know
could never fathom
the depths of my passion
and devotion to you

My dearest one
if I cannot be with you
I don't want to ever
see the sunrise
or feel breath in my lungs
again

You have stolen
pieces of me, darling
that I cannot ever get back

Must I be forced to live this way
unable to see in the darkness
with your precious light?

No, I suppose this is the way of things
now that you're lost and gone
I wish you well, love

But I'll always stand here
in front of your house
on your street
now deserted

Your faithful "other."

Poem: "Leaves and Silence"

"Leaves and Silence"

Walking outside
as the autumn cold
hits my face
my feet hitting the pavement

Not long ago
when the world
seemed so easy
and my heart
still believed

In silly things
like love
and happy endings
when the sun shone
its brightest

When I had you
in my life, dear
everything seemed so
much easier

Our parting
without a goodbye
has broken my heart
once more

Even though I know
we never can ever go back
I miss the way you loved me
and how you made me feel

So you're gone now
and every moment of joy
has faded but forever remembered
lost now
amid leaves and silence.

Poem: "Nothing Left"

"Nothing Left"

As I sit here in front of my desk
staring at the blinking computer screen
my mind drifts to thoughts of you
as the words come
and my once cold heart
comes to life

My fingers on the keyboard
as the computer screen lights up
the words escape from unknown depths
in the same tiny room

You're gone
and there's nothing left
here for me
except memories of you
in my head

They repeat
like snippets of
a film that I've seen
a million times
but never remembered

The subtle beauty of your face
they way your eyes shone
the curvature of your lips
the soft contours
of your perfect shape

The rain begins to fall quietly
pitter-pattering against the window
as the bright neon signs cast
an eerie glow amidst the darkness

I go to the window
and quietly watch
the spectacle unfold

My heart breaking
more and more
by each passing moment.

Poem: "Against"

"Against"

If I search
the glittering glow
of neon that dots
the night

If I walk the same
deserted streets
holding on
to false hope
lighter in hand
waiting to burn

If I sit alone
in the bed
empty and cold
my desperation
will wrap me up
in her perfect embrace

If I close my eyes
and dare imagine
what could have been

I'd hear your voice
feel your breath
lie with you
skin against skin

And everything I've ever known
would pale beside
your subtle beauty

Your love - too much
the intoxication
consumes me

As morning light comes
I wake up
with no one there
and the scent of you
lingering
imprinted on my heart
forever in shade.

Poem: "Wishing For You"

"Wishing For You"

September morn
come 'round again
the wind makes
the trees sway
as the leaves
soon change color

Our room is empty
since you went away
the sheets unkempt
your scent lingering

As I sit in the same
old chair
in front of the blinking
computer screen

Waiting for the words
to come
that will make you see
somehow
make you stop in
your tracks

Last night
we had coffee
and talked for the last time

If I close my eyes
and let my thoughts drift off
of us alone
together

That special place
where we can never go
because you, my darling
belong to another

And I refuse to give in
to the temptation of
casting aside
my better angels

I need you
but I can never
be the one
for you, my dearest

I want you
but the secret garden
will be forever locked away

Our Eden
will never be
though I still
wish for you

My world's spinning
as you watch desperately
with love in your heart
as I silently fade into
beautiful shadow

How I love you still

And my forlorn heart
will cling to you
amidst the great divide
that will forever
be our guide.

Poem: "Light The Way"

"Light The Way"

The night has passed
the clouds of despair and pain
that have threatened to
overtake our longing hearts
has gone away

Take my hand
and gaze at me
with that sultry look
that gets me every time

Tell me your secrets
share with me your
unspoken desires
and let the moment
take us where it will

Kiss me
with your aching lips
and let the sweetness
linger on my mouth

Take me
I want to feel
whole again

Take me to that place
where only you know how
Soaking wet
our bodies intertwine

And let the sounds
of our passionate discourse
be our guide
and light the way

To eternal bliss
as the candle burns
fervent and bright.

Poem: "Breathe"

"Breathe"

The morning sun
shines brightly
illuminating
your beautiful contours

The former melancholy
of secret night and her
hidden devotions and
unknown desires
best left undisturbed
has faded

You gaze on me
so longingly
with those eyes
your lovely eyes

Lying in bed
with you
skin against skin
our bodies intertwined
your warmth is intoxicating

Your breath on my neck
pressed up against you
I can feel your heart beat
hard as a drum

I need you
like the sun needs the moon
and the stars need the
perfect expanse of sky

I could live a thousand years
and yet, I would never find
another one as beautiful as
you are to me

You've become the air
I so desperately long
to breathe.

Poem: "The Trouble With No"

"The Trouble With No"

The door swings open
as you leave
for the last time
as memory starts to fade
I hear the birds outside
chirping mournfully

Your cup of coffee
sits untouched on the counter
the morning paper
on the table unread

Last night
with you
was incredible

You decided
to wear a low cut top
and your favorite jeans
with your hair down

We went out to the park
and sat under the sky
we talked of the future
and watched the stars
as they faded and streaked
across the face of night

You took my hand
and whispered softly
of your desires and dreams
as we kissed over and over
our bodies pressed up against
one another

We went home
later that night
and you slipped
into something
more comfortable

The lights turned down low
you kissed me once
I turned away
trying to fight you off

But you wrapped your arms
around my waist and
pulled me onto you
and, before I could protest
you kissed me hard
and gazed with those
perfect eyes

And the rest
was enraptured
in sweet surrender.

Poem: "Right Here, Now"

"Right Here, Now"

Alone
in front of this blinking
screen
staring at blank white
waiting for the words
to come

The room is empty
the bed is cold
everything is different
without your love
to fill my lonely spaces

I close my eyes
and imagine you
right here, now
and in that moment
we're together again

I touch your face
we lean in closer
I feel your breath
on my neck

As we kiss
the world stops
for an instant
my heart spins

I hear you
whispering
in my ear

I need you
I want you
please stay awhile
because you
and only you
make me whole

As our bodies meet
at the mutual intersection
as I lay against you
the heat rises

A moan escapes
as your legs part open
and the rhythm of our
sensual interlude
threatens to overtake us

I need you
I ache for you
I want you so badly
I can taste it

You are the night sky
and all the glittering stars

You are the sun
that shines brightly

You are my whole world
and forever will be.

Poem: "Don't"

"Don't"

Time has passed slowly
the moment has lingered
for far too long
as the sky turns dark

The beauty of former
has faded against the tumult
against the wishes of the demons
lurking just beneath the cracks
waiting to surface

Gone is the way things
used to be
when the world made sense
and youth was on my side

As you walk away
the waters have receded
and faith weeps crystal tears
as my heart shatters
cast off
into oblivion

"Please don't go," I whisper desperately

How I need you still.

Poem: "Under The Lights"

"Under The Lights"

The sun fades silently
as the sky waits
for the subtle beauty
of coming night

Discretion gives way
to desperate release
please, I beg you, take me
away with you

You have what I need
what I want
what I crave

Exploring the boundaries
pushing the envelope
under the lights.

Poem: "On The Line"

"On The Line"

Driving down the highway
the top down
towards an unknown
away from the pain
and misery

1994 blares on the radio
as my mind wanders
to the that night
when I lost you
and the world
stopped making any sense

It was Sunday night
I had come in from a heavy downpour
clothes soaked to the bone
it dark inside
no light in the house

You were bent over
hands gripping the kitchen island
shirt ripped out, breasts exposed
skirt raised, legs apart

In the heat of the moment
a desperate moan escaped
your aching mouth
as your eyes
seemed to say

"I'm sorry"

I ran out
the sting of salty tears
streaming down my face
went upstairs

Found the knife
you hid in the nightstand drawer
dropped to my knees
clutching it
hands shaking, throat dry

The blade
slivery gleam
perfectly beautiful
it rushes to meet
my delicate insides

As I collapse
I hear you scream
as you stand over me
everything comes full circle

As life fades away
I smile
my hand touches yours
for the last time

With our mutual salvation
on the line.

Poem: "Blood In My Veins"

"Blood In My Veins"

If I sleep to dream
let me see your lovely face
hear your voice again
to feel you beside me
once more

In the morning after
after passion and need
have satisfied our lustful desires
the sun rises to greet us
with its illuminating light

You get up and walk towards the window
looking out towards the shore
as the tides come crashing violently
against the rocks

It has begun anew
I walk up behind you
and slide my hands
around your waist

As the moment lingers
my heart beats faster
you lean your back
against my chest
and sigh contentedly

Loving you is the one thing
that I was meant to do
lest we share the same air
to breathe

You have become
the very blood
in my veins.

Poem: "Flood"

"Flood"

I stand here
in front of this broken glass
because of you dear

The scars
such beautiful
little things

Tears come down
like raindrops
amid the fading dawn

My breath is cold
as you stare
gasping at my holes
exposed

You turn away
as the light fades
from your eyes
those desperate pools
of stormy blue-gray

Crawling on my hands and knees
on the blood soaked floor
you took away my innocence
and replaced it with dark
restless seething

Oh I want to hate you
my bastard love
I was taken before my time
you ripped me apart
with your promises and deceit

As you pulled me closer into you
a part of me died
my screams of help
fell on deaf ears

Oh my sweet predator
you shall always have the best part
of me
locked away with you

As you walk away
for the last time
love, always remember

That in the empty spaces
that grow within you
that I hope you get what's coming
to you

How I love you still
as this feeling lingers a moment longer
save me somehow
from giving in
and doing the right thing
for the wrong reason.

Poem: "Notes From The 13th Ceiling Aftermath"

"Notes From The 13th Ceiling Aftermath"

The heat index today was 105
inside this cramped room
the bed unkempt, pillows askew
your scent lingers on the sheets

You left a note for me
taped to the fridge
scrawled in your handwriting
the words seem to jump off
the page

Last night was a wash
I left the bar as you came in
you had that little black number on
the one you swore you'd never
wear for me

Walking home alone
the cold November air
against my face
as a smile invades
the corners of my mouth

Words fly off the typewriter
at breakneck speed
you are at the bar now
nursing a Rum and Coke

Soon you'll be in the arms
of another handsome stranger
doing the things we used we
used to
long ago

You know I still do
turning your back
the shadows threaten
to swallow us whole

Close your eyes
the tides are coming
for you, my darling
beware the beacon
as the sirens blare

The waiting shore
opens her warm arms
as we watch

Whispering all the while
"let her bleed"
kicking up sand

It's over now
as tears stream
down my burning cheeks
you get up and leave

Inside, something breaks
my mind's spinning

I want you
but we can't ever go back
I love you
goodbye

Let me slowly fade to black
and allow the darkness
to slip through it.

Poem: "The Wish"

"The Wish"

The night waits
in silent splendor
as countless faces
in the sea of humanity
oblivious to their own whims

She lies in shadow
clutching the pillow
imagining him
beside her

The feel of his skin
against her luminous beauty
the aching warmth
of their mutual entanglement
her lips, his arms, her thighs

The tension between them palpable
pulling her into him, they kiss deeply
the room spins
in what seems like am an eternity
as the moment lingers

He looks into her eyes
into those beautiful eyes
and knows that this
was never meant to be

The light from the candle
flickers as the unspoken wish
fades desperately
against the glow of dying stars.

Poem: "The Gift"

"The Gift"

Lying in bed
in the sweltering heat
of a mid summer's night
can't sleep

Thoughts of you
invade my mind
as the horses
stop spinning

Your lips brush against mine
your touch, electricity between us
hands grip the bed tightly
as passion and sensual commerce
threaten to overtake us

In the aftermath
where mutual longing and desire
collide
what we share burns brighter
than a thousand stars
that like heaven's perfect face.

You cling to me
we are alone together
you gaze with those eyes
those beautiful eyes

And your smile
captures my heart
more than
a million "I love you's"
ever could

My beloved friend
and darling lover
keep me from losing myself
so that we can share a moment
that lingers
long after the afterglow.

Poem: "Beauty's Whisper"

"Beauty's Whisper"

Waking up next to you
the morning sun hits my face
with its welcoming warmth
the clock reads 9 a.m.

The night has faded
in its exquisite glory
with its secret promises
and perfect indiscretion

You gaze at me so sweet
it makes my heart soar
feels like heaven beside you
my dear beloved

Kiss me once
with that aching mouth
those perfect lips
make this moment
linger just awhile longer

When our bodies meet
at the sensual intersection
of affection and longing
I'm on fire
as you lean closer
into me
deeper we go down

In the morning you lay in bed
your head on my bare chest
I feel the joy in you breath
I feel you up against me
whispering gently in my ear

"I love you"

Then something within me
dies and is reborn in an instant
the world is wide and wonderful
once more

On the windowsill, a dove waits
shimmering in the afterglow
of beauty's return.

Poem: "Falling Into You"

"Falling Into You"

The night calls out
to the sweltering
glittering neon signs

The skyline is beautiful
with the stars streaking
across the face of heaven

The room is bare
walls are unadorned
signs of the past
everywhere

As the old typewriter
it sits idly
waiting for the words
to come

But we both know
it won't work out exactly
the way we may want it to
despite the desperation
lingering against
your window

Look to the sky
touch my face
hold my hand
and let the wonder
of us take you away
once more.

Poem: "The Fragile"

"The Fragile"

Watching the skeletons
as they crawl out
of the closet
as broken bones
seethe in quiet disgust

Silence pervades
the subtle spaces
between you and I
begin to fade
as the distance grows

I will wait for you
my dearest one
amid the larks
that fly overhead

Walking alone
to the pond
I cast a pebble
and watch it skip along
the clear water

As I close my eyes
I wish for you
and, in that fleeting moment,
our embrace lingers
as you kiss
my aching mouth.

Poem: "Shattered Glass"

"Shattered Glass"

Sitting alone at my desk
staring numbly at the blinking screen
your face etched in my memory
your fragrance, your breath
lingers awhile
longer than it should

Insomnia has taken hold
though sleep eludes me
like a phantom
in the early hours

The bed is cold now
you've gone away
twilight has descended
upon my heart
like vultures to a carcass

I have spent hours
days, weeks, months
wishing you'd come back
hoping that you would
somehow see how
this whole beautiful mess
came to be

You've went away
met another
I hear you're married now
he must be a wonderful man

I've been through this a million times
and would probably go through it
a million more
just to have the answers
that would somehow
make me whole again

Crawling on my knees
toward the door
hands reach up
struggling to escape

There is no hope
inside, my heart
seethes
shards of
shattered glass.

Poem: "Remains" *

"Remains" *

Standing in the spot
it is dark now
nightfall has descended
upon the subtle remains
of my broken heart

There was a man
who frequented
the local nightclub
who knew the
daughter of a woman
who was owed money

He walks inside
sits at the bar
eyes me suspiciously
for a moment

I sit idly
as the minutes pass
as the words come
from a familiar place

The bed is cold
and I'm tired
this place has
no warmth left

Head in my hands
pictures of you
all scattered
on the bed

Blood on my shirt
staggering to the sink
turn the faucet on
the water running

I collapse to the floor
welcoming unnatural sleep
as the void seeks fervent embrace
once more.

Poem: "My Sunday Girl" *

"My Sunday Girl" *

The neon glows like a beacon
inviting the lovers of the night
to come out of the woodwork
the moon is out
in its quiet brilliance

She is among them tonight
searching for the something
or someone that will stop
her vulnerable heart

Desire hides within
the shadows
as the wind howls
we run hand in hand
to the old church

It is beautiful inside, he whispers
as Sunday's girl leans into him
and their bodies intertwine
the wetness from her thighs
blesses the union

A holy no
as the two souls
are joined
in consecrated bliss.

Poem: "Interstate" *

"Interstate" *

Driving on the highway
away from here
away from the ghosts
that have haunted
my days

The open road ahead
so many miles to go
the sun shines down
upon your beautiful face

The former glory we shared
is now hanging by a thread
the wind in our hair
not a single cloud in the sky

You move closer
leaning in for a kiss
our lips meet
and, in that moment,
the flame burns once more

The lies spoken between us
the fragrant desperation
that your demands had
on my mind and my heart
was undeniably palpable

You squeeze my hand
I put my foot on the gas pedal
and, as the speedometer, rises
I close my eyes

And imagine you above me
with nothing but a smile
your sticky warmth over me

As it curdles my blood
along this stretch
of lonely interstate.

Poem: "Mess"

"Mess"

The streets are lined
with freaks, addicts, and fuckers
the night has come once again
illuminating storm and stillness
with its perfect light

He lays on the bed
contemplating
the what if's
the could have been's

Still in the tiny cramped space
surrounded by scraps of paper
half-eaten cartons of bad Chinese takeout
and empty bottles of Smirnoff and Jack Daniel's

She left in a haze
taking in her suitcase
all their hopes, dreams, desires
and dirty laundry

He finds a picture of her
in happier times
and softly traces her face
with his fingers

The skeletons of his closet
have come back
from the long buried past
for their much deserved
revenge

Smiling to himself
he drops to his knees
mutters a silent plea
calmly awaiting
the deluge to
commence.

Poem: "The Addict"

"The Addict"

The man stares back
at the mirror
and can't stand the sight
of himself
of what he has lost
and what he has become

He stares at the walls
they are bare
and unbelievably brutal
in their silence

The words fly onto the page
as he sits at the old desk
the electric typewriter a-buzzing
his mind feverishly at the controls

A bottle of vodka sits idly by
he fishes in his pocket for a cigarette
and lights it, taking a long drag
he leans back in the chair
and smiles to himself

She left long ago
the warm and beauty
that filled his life
is now no more

He gets up
grabs the vodka bottle
and steps outside for a moment
into the waiting rain

Taking a drink
he longs for sweet surrender
that never comes

He falls to his knees
praying for respite

As his demons coldly laugh
churning, twisting, writhing
the pain contorts his face
into a state of wickedly contented
bliss

Lest the world fades away
the final breath exhales.

Poem: "The Veil"

"The Veil"

She stands at the altar
her fiance apparently decided
to run off with that hot brunette
40-ish cougar
in the leopard print
and high heels

The bride
smiles to herself
amid a rush of tears
"It was so easy back then,"
she says with a sigh

He promised to take her
away from all the sadness
from all the pain that tortured
her aching heart

That first night
she found out
that he loved her

She decided to repay him
in kind
with lingerie and red wine
it was a sordid, lovely night

Time passed and the two
became joined at the hip
he took a steady 9-5
while she stayed home with the kids

The night of their undoing
he was caught in the backseat
getting to know the neighbor's wife
with his pants down around his ankles

The bastard smiled afterward
and, upon his return, the bride
punched him square in the face
and stormed out of the house

The lonely veil left on the killing floor.

Poem: "Chaos and Midday"

"Chaos and Midday"

When the line
crosses into the night's fateful
sublime knowing
and the seams
are about to burst

And the broken mess
lies in the floor
what is left
is not much else

Other than this empty room
and the same old typewriter
in the same chair
the walls are bare now

My hands ache
with resignation
of the coming
of the eventual
undoing

The sun is shining
inside, my bones are cold
the blood that runs
through my body
is rendered useless

Strangers walk past
on the street
with their filthy handshakes
and fake gestures

You are gone now
nothing is the same
I'm missing you
as the world grows smaller

I die a little more inside
who's gonna reach out
to rescue me
from the fall?

Head in my hands
Tthe clock blares
it is now 1:30 p.m.
as a breath manages
a heroic escape

The debacle is now
in full swing.

Poem: "Taken"

"Taken"

This feels like a dream
the sun rises
its glorious light
signals the beginning

you're standing by the window
silently watching the restless waves
as they crash against the waiting shore

I get up and go to the window
you smile as I take your hand
and you put your arm around me

moments pass
as your heart
throbs
nearly skipping
a beat

you gaze at me
longingly
as we kiss
your lips taste
sweet

lest our fervent embrace
leads us down
unknown paths

let my devotion
be our guide
to light the way

hold me close
tell me that you desire
what it is
I so desperately offer.

Poem: "Deep"

"Deep"

The moonlight illuminates
your face, your lovely face
as you sleep, shadows flicker
and dance amid your subtle shape

You called last night
at the bar
had a few drinks
and danced
with a handsome stranger

"I hate it when
those random cocks
think it's okay to just
come up behind me
and grab my ass."

It was 2:30
in the morning
when you knocked
on my door

Your eyes were bloodshot
your mascara all over
saying nothing
you ran over
and caught me up
in your embrace

We talked for hours
over coffee
and bad Chinese takeout

Feeling needy
you motioned to the bed
and, as you laid there
you shuddered
spreading your legs
ever so slightly

Your mouth parted
as we kissed
the heat between us
undeniable

As our bodies
intertwined
faster, harder, more
and so went the flow

Until you collapsed
into my waiting arms
bathed in sweat
sticky and satisfied
you winked as
you licked your lips

Wanting another go
knowing all along
you were in deep
from the start.

Poem: "Amid The Ruins"

"Amid The Ruins"

The moonlight shimmers
across the restless tides
another day is gone away
as watchful eyes ponder
unforeseen motives

the same routine
at the old typewriter
writing the same lines
watching the wheels spin

she lies on the bed
with her diary open
pouring her heart out
her thoughts
are a million miles away

a note left on the door:

"dearest,

it has been ages since we
last saw one another
I did not want
our last moments together
to be full of anger and pain

I just wanted to let you know
that that you will always be
the most special part of me

even though we're apart
please know that the sun
will rise again
and I won't ever let you go"

she gets up and goes to the kitchen
and picks up the phone
dialing the number slowly
she exhales

desperately wishing
her beloved's embrace
to carry her home
amid the ruins.

Poem: "Sober"

"Sober"

The bright sun has burned away
the last vestiges of self-control
as the bottle sits silently on the desk
in front of me

the bed where I lay is empty
and cold
your subtle warmth
gone away

the phone rings
I let the answering machine
pick up
just so I can your voice again

the walls
are bare now
it's too late
to save me
from the fall

sometimes
I close my eyes
and hear you
whisper softly

your fragrant beauty
lingers awhile
clinging to me
haunting my soul
stirring my bones

amid perfect strokes
of shadow and release
the aching intersection
of unbridled sensuality.

Poem: "Imprint"

"Imprint"

The alarm clock
blares loudly
it is 3 a.m.
as the light
goes out

In the dark
of the early morning
hours
while the world sleeps
desperation seethes

I sit here at my desk
in the same old chair
writing the words
that I hope will reach you

the night light
starts to flicker
as thoughts
of you rush
into my mind

I am a cup
waiting desperately
to be filled.

Poem: "Possession"

"Possession"

The light fades slowly
patches of sun still peek through
the open window

she looks out
up at the sky
as the clouds approach
and gentle night settles in

she longs for him
his face forever imprinted
in her mind

she reaches for his picture
on the nightstand
clutching it
close to her heart

the bed is cold and empty
without his warmth
and easy laugh

she turns away
as the loneliness creeps in
and threatens to overtake
her precious heart

somewhere
he walks in silently
into the same space
he's occupied for years

with the single bed
and cramped desk
with electric typewriter

he wishes that she knew
the desires of his heart
and what lies deep
within his soul

the phone rings
she is on the other line
he smiles to himself

and so the dance begins anew.

Poem: "Nearly Gone"

"Nearly Gone"

I think I'm falling for you, he said
it has been hours since they have talked
or seen one another, but the poor boy's heart
is so full

that he's about to burst at the seams

he walks to the desk and sits down
feverishly writing down his thoughts
on the paper
barely stopping for a breath
the words flow like running water
onto the thirsty page

she waits in silence
her heart locked away
the beauty in her eyes
masked by the pain
that haunts her still

the moment fate intervenes
and the two desperate souls
are joined together

the woman smiles
and embraces the boy
and the joy that consumes her
nearly makes his heart ache
overflowing with need and gratitude

they lie together now
underneath the stars
he holds her close
as she lays her head
on his bare chest

they look deeply
into one another's eyes
and with that first kiss
the world that they once knew apart
is now nearly gone.

Poem: "Skin"

Poem: "Skin"

You are out there
waiting in silence
moments pass
as the glitter of
neon fades

You don't know me
although we've passed
each other in public
several times

If the coward in me
would die
then you would
surely know
what I already do

Though distance keeps us apart
every time I close my eyes
we are together
you and I
in the same space

I don't have the words
in this moment with you
to feel your warmth
against my skin

Lest the demons drag me
into the mouth of hell
as heaven stares down
with divine reluctance

I'm locked away in the same room
with all these words - precious words
scattered on countless pieces of paper
across the cold wooden floor

It is night now
you slip on a short black dress
and ruby red lipstick
with your hair down

you look dangerous tonight

The anticipation is almost
ready to devour my insides
and break my fragile bones
one by one

Will you wait for me
in the fragrant shadows
longing to be noticed
aching to be touched
starving for affection

As I lie naked on the bed
moonlight illuminates my bare chest
lost in the rapture, desire beckons
the door opens slowly as you walk in

"here and now, my love
our sensual undoing,"
was the last thing you whispered

amid the tumultuous roar
of our bodies intertwined
in sweat and ecstasy

Reaching out for beautiful release.

Poem: "Closet Fuckers"

"Closet Fuckers"

Part I: SHE

I was 16
when I lost it
it hurt and it was dark
we had decided to wait
until Mom left for the night

I was a popular girl in school
every day after gym class
the boys would wait near my locker
like moths to a flame

His name was Brad
and he was big
6'3" and muscular
and he loved to show off

It happened on a Friday
under the bleachers
during football practice

He liked the my short skirt
the way it accentuated my hips
and always watched my walk
he was determined, that one was

It hurt at first with him
on top of me
raising me up
into him

I stifled a scream
I felt something gush
inside me and
my heart sank.

Part II: He

Victoria was a prude
she didn't think so
but everyone knew it
by the way she was

The way she could gaze
into the eyes of an unsuspecting guy
and turn his knees to jelly

Or whenever she walked
The way her hips swayed
back and forth
made all the guys squirm
with anticipation

She seduced a freshman
in the boy's locker room
by bending over and showing her ass
and exposing her cleavage

She backed up into him
as they went
in and out
painting the loop

Wet, sweaty
achingly lustful
screaming

The last moments, euphoric.

Poem: "Chasing In The Dark"

Poem: "Chasing In The Dark"

Part 1: Her

Her black hair glistens
as she steps out of the shower
dries herself off
and stands naked
in front of a full-length mirror

Admiring her lovely shape
subtle contours
ample breasts
pouty lips

She puts on a short black dress
that rises above the knees
that barely covers her ass
when she walks

She smiles and laughs
no one hears her
the excitement
is almost too much
as she stumbles
out the door.

Part II: She (The Lover)

Putting on her lipstick
she feels her heart pounding
like a siren into the waiting night
she pours herself a glass of wine
and sits on the couch

She lays back and closes her eyes
imagining her lover
touching her, whispering to her
"you know you want this"

The anticipation is intoxicating
as she loses herself in the moment
feeling warm
she reaches for her favorite cock
and has one last go
as she succumbs to beautiful release
the wetness all over
her aching thighs

As the doorbell starts to ring.

Poem: "Beauty's Escape"

"Beauty's Escape"

I don't know what's wrong with me, love
the hollow beating of my heart
makes me desperately long
for a quiet place
to escape

Darling, the demons
threaten to overtake
my tortured soul
there's no turning back now

If only I could see your face
to rest my head on your bare chest
to feel your breath against my neck
to kiss you until I am forever intoxicated

I fallen so far
in so deep
that I have forgotten
where I end
and you begin

The thought of you
warms my cold heart
and stirs a hunger
that I believed to be long gone

Sit with me now
my beautiful one
and allow the fires
of passion and need
guide us

So I can get lost
in the rapture and affection
that is you

Will you save me
long enough to set me free?

Poem: "Spinning The Wheels"

"Spinning The Wheels"

The room seems a bit uneven
a little off kilter
am I still here
the mauve walls
mock my contemplation

You left a week ago
I'd be lying if I told you
that I'm doing fine
the bottles of liquor
attest to my moral apathy

The guy you are with
is rich, successful
lives in the Hamptons
and quotes Picasso

I'm stuck in this
cramped shit hole
of a place
writing away aimlessly
on the same old typewriter

I'm waiting for you
again
like old times
thinking of you again

Dear love
with your sweet face
your soft curves
round hips
firm breasts
and aching temptation

How I hate you now
the sickening laughter
of the silent walls

The damned eye o'clock
signaling my impending doom
as the phone sits in the corner
untouched

I pick up the receiver
dial your number
just to hear you
fuck me over
again

My sweet darling
make me forget
please let me
slip through the cracks.

Poem: "Night and Shade"

"Night and Shade"

Her black hair
falling down
slightly past
her shoulders

her pale skin
illuminated
by the perfect light
of silvery moon

the vampire princess
her soft face
and subtle beauty
masks what lies
beneath in shadow

the heart that beats within
is wide open and searching
for that kindred soul
to soothe for pain
and warm the coldness
that seethes inside

her beloved waits from afar
his heart full of longing
his arms open wishing

for the embrace that
will calm the raging fires
that have tormented
his broken soul

she stands before him
and, as they kiss
the taste lingers
as the moment fades
into eternity

the love they hold
for one another
is the shimmering light
breaking through
the wounded sky

after the storm
this moment
they are alone
together

such a beautiful interlude
as she whispers,
I love you

he responds in kind
under the glimmering stars
she smiles as he says

I will never let you go.

Poem: "Into The Black"

"Into The Black"

Lost in fervent dreams
comes darkest night
when the wind howls
as she lies in bed

the huntress seethes
sleep evades her
elusive, it laughs
denying her
peace

she gets up
and goes to the window
and gazes at the coming storm
as the thunder rumbles
and the heavens
unleash their fury

she smiles
the princess of the darkness
and ventures into
the unknown jungle
of which there
is much pain and pleasure
to be had

her long black hair
drapes her beautiful face
her pale skin
illuminated by the moonlight

her heart
seeks the warmth
of her lover
now gone away

she has witnessed the wrath
of hell's damned
the mere thought of him
the object of her affection
and untamed desire

her beloved
lying uncovered on the bed
warms her cold heart
as she turns and heads for home

she whispers
I am the beautiful face
of night's demise

as she goes in search
for her beloved
something inside her stirs
as she smiles

the corners
of her aching mouth
dripping with her lover's blood.

Poem: "Need"

"Need"

In comes the night
such an unruly mistress
the day has passed away
its splendid fire
gone

outside, the sky
patches of blue
peek out
amid the gloom

I wake up
the slow pitter-patter
of the rain as it falls
to the parched earth

you lay next to me
your arms on my bare chest
you look up at me
and smile knowingly

we kiss
your lips taste
ever so sweet, darling
your hands touch
all over my body

I hold you close
the silence lingers
amid the whispers
of temptation

our bodies intertwine
in long moments
dripping, aching
sensual longing

in the aftermath
of the deluge
where passion and lust
collide desperately

love lies at the feet
of beautiful need.

Poem: "The Garden"

"The Garden"

the dawn breaks
with its shimmering light
she walks alone
lost in the splendor
of those forbidden things

her little ones, she says
it has been ages
since she has known
the warmth that
unbridled passion
is known to bestow
her lonely soul

the emptiness
with its subtle musings
calls out to her
in her most vulnerable
of moments

it has been ages
since she has seen him
she lays on the cold bed
wishing for her beloved's return

the morning of her undoing
she was in the garden
when she saw him standing there
a lark on his shoulder

her heart skipped a beat
as she rushed to meet
her lover's embrace

lost in the rapture
of that smoldering kiss
were the words she whispered:

"how I've missed you, my love
never again shall I let you go."

Poem: "Crown of Thorns"

"Crown of Thorns"

The man from Nazareth
born of Mary
but not of man

Calmed the storm
near Lake Galilee
cast out demons
and healed the sick

Fed the 5,000
on the mount
with a couple loaves
and fish

Peter
the rock
denied Him
three times

John
the beloved
followed Him
to the end

Judas
the betrayer
dipped his hand
in the same bowl
and sealed His fate
with a kiss

Son and carpenter
healer and prophet
Messiah
Lamb of God

If the day on Calvary comes to pass
and the faithful are shaken
let them find strength in His agony
and comfort in His last breath

Christ
the Lord
break the chains
of bondage

From the crown of thorns
that wound my forsaken heart
as temptation seethes within
strike down the Tempter

With the power
of thine mighty arm
and flaming sword.

Poem: "Vox"

"Vox"

the leeches and the damned
are coming out of
the woodwork
tonight

as you lie in bed
sleep evades you
as fickle as
the wind

the window is open
as the cool air
forces you awake

the moonlight
illuminates your face
look up to the sky

as the star streaks
in the quiet expanse of sky
as you reach for me

I am no more

and you are left
in a fetal position
on the floor

as a feeble scream
barely escapes
from the depths
within

never heard

this former beauty
and its stirring drama
as the phone rings

the last words you hear:

"it's fucking gone."

Poem: "You Can Call Me Anytime"

"You Can Call Me Anytime"

Take my hands
walk the funeral in the rain
make no unfortune demands
lest you end up like the insane

Knock, knock
what's that you're saying
my soul's at ease
I've never worn a purple frock
don't know the con you're playing
watch out don't catch a sexually transmitted disease

Kiss me once in red
the world is open wide
time for school
someone just died
She's no one's fool

The dawn is breaking
life is in bloom
cast your vote
your faith, you are forsaking
chase the gloom
on the last note.

In the end, the best parts are used
and the better parts are thrown away
left in the dust of the glittering Twitter Nation
in 140 or less
the countdown has begun

"What are you doing today?"

I'll be outside
taking a drag
from my last
remaining cigarette

Fuck my life.

Poem: "Dashboard Confessions of a Twitter Addict"

"Dashboard Confessions of a Twitter Addict"

the smoke has cleared
as blood and dust
cover the floor

the dolls sit silently
watching the deluge unfold
in the awful propensity
of uncovered motives

the computer screen blinks
and bleeps
as the nameless connect
to their inner Bill Gates

if I have ever felt the
push and pull
to undress my innermost
thoughts and desires

do it in 140 characters or less.

Poem: "Regret"

"Regret"

She looked out the window
it was late on a Friday
she wore her favorite
black dress

she had her hair down
thought it made her look
ten years younger

it was time
the night called out
with the promise
of its bright neon
and silent electric longing

she wore pink lipstick
and her hands and feet
painted black

when she walked into the bar
she sat down, winked at the bartender
and slowly uncrossed her legs

casually sipping a vodka
a man sitting across the table
nodded carefully as he watched her

somewhere inside, he felt
a warm sensation
in the pit
of his stomach
every part of his being
tensed with anticipation

he closed his eyes
and imagined her
next to him

a time when the war
was over and he could
return to a normal life
and stop being a soldier

she made it back home
in a haze
she had one too many
at the bar

she wanted to love him
her lips trembled at the notion
she laid on the bed
and closed her eyes

in her mind
they were in bed
lying so close

she could feel his breath
against her face
touching, it began

until they were trapped
in the rapture
of sensual undoing

she loved him so, she said
his perfect body
his clean shaven face

the soldier left her behind

in the morning
she woke up alone
in the tiny room

snatches of him
lingering
forever etched in her mind

she got up slowly
went to the window
and felt
the illuminating warmth
of the risen sun

she smiled softly
as tears fell
regret sprung from within her

as she fell to her knees
in a heap on the floor
her world fades quietly
with each passing moment
a poignant death.

Poem: "Hate"

"Hate"

It doesn't have
to end this way
let me hold
you close
once more

it is morning now
last night
is dead

with its quiet desperation
and garishling bright neon
my inevitable collapse is near

like a lover waiting
in the shadows
under the glittering
forlorn street lights

goodbye, dear
the incessant pull
of unrequited dreams

your last kiss
burned my insides
as I try to look away
as anger and regret

forces out bittersweet tears
in the silence
of the great divide
growing within my restless heart.

Poem: "Stand"

"Stand"

She stares off
into the distance
it seems forever

since she has felt
his lips against
her aching mouth

since she has known
his subtle touch
and familiar voice

she is a sinking ship
in a raging ocean
her heart is ripped in two

and yet, she does not weep
she will not bleed
the woman still waits
by the open window

illuminated by the shimmer
of silent moonlight
her face watching
the lonely street below

in the morning
she wakes up
to the glaring heat
of the sun

she contemplates
what her next move
might be

she tries to resist
the allure of
the night

with its bright lights
and pretty faces
intoxicated with
the anticipation
of liquor and
a cheap fuck

she takes a drag
from her cigarette
letting it dangle
from her long fingers

the red nail polish
dances in the sunlight
as a smile creeps
about the corners
of her aching mouth.

Poem: "Dead End"

"Dead End"

The coffee sits on the counter
In a little styrofoam cup
streaked with red lipstick

Post It notes
littered with
scribbled "I love you's"
tacked on the fridge

your dress lies
on the bed
it was strapless
and came slightly
above the knee

your scent
still clings
to the pillow

I replay
old messages
left on the answering machine
just to hear your voice again

woke up this morning
it's been months now
I spend the days
in that corner diner
we used to have lunch at

writing letters to you
that I don't have
the intention of sending

I ran into your sister
the other day
she said you moved away
to Europe somewhere

met some perfect stranger
who finally gave you everything
that I couldn't ever hope to

at night I still go to the same spot
we once shared
when our hearts were full
and the world seemed
brimming with possibilities and wonder

the stars shine brightly
as the moon illuminates
the street I walk on
moving ever forward
until I reach
the inevitable

all the while, I think of you
the desperation, palpable
as I close my eyes

and in that moment,
we are together once more
though forever apart.

Poem: "Peephole"

"Peephole"

I've been watching you
for months now
trapped in this lonely
uninviting space

I see you walk
down the street
you stop for coffee
at Starbucks

every Tuesday at 8:15 a.m.
you go to the gym
with your Walkman in hand
your favorite color is midnight blue

and your smile reminds me
of Gala apples
and your scent is a cross
between jasmine and vanilla

you brought home sometime
the third Sunday three months ago
he fucked you up against the wall
raised your skirt and you gasped
no panties, the bastard squealed

I watched from the peephole
of my door
you knocked sometime later

but the lights were out
and I was getting to know
myself better

what would it be like
to hear you breathe
to feel your head resting
softly against my naked chest

you don't have to worry
your dirty little secret
is safe with me.

Poem: "The Mark"

"The Mark"

It is quiet now
the yelling has subsided
the screams have faded

she crawls
to the phone
dials 9-1-1
struggles to
speak

the operator says
"9-1-1, what
is your emergency?"

the woman repiles
"please help. he is coming,"
as she collapses

the world starts to fade
as her eyes catch sight
of him standing over
her motionless body

she has become
the mark.

Poem: "Forget Beatty"

"Forget Beatty"

William was handsome
tall, tan-skinned
with dark hair
and piercing brown eyes

he makes me hate
myself
I am small
and
hopeless

an insignificant blot
on the face of humanity
I turn over
and try to shut my eyes

the fool inside of me
whispers incessantly

wake up
wash your hair
put on fresh clothes
eat breakfast

an hour of exercise
followed by meditation
and Tai Chi

I hate myself
but I don't ever
dare to change

I want so desperately
to forget Beatty.

Poem: "October's Release"

"October's Release"

The autumn leaves
have fallen silently
on the ground
walking amid the crowds

of the faceless strangers
as they mockingly smile
smirk and point

the sins of the fathers
have been visited on
unsuspecting mothers
and their young

it is almost Halloween
with the masks and
the makeup

somewhere inside
the inner child seethes
unbearable screams
the birthing has finally
begun

the child held in her mother's arms
smiles gently and falls asleep
as the pain of motherhood lapses
lost in October's
subtle release.

Poem: "Leaving The Spectacle"

"Leaving The Spectacle"

Underneath the stars
when the world is quiet
and the sky opens up
her tears

laying with you
drinking in the
unfettered beauty
of God's hand

lest we must let go
of the beating of
our expectant hearts

and gently forget
the beauty of this world
let the spectacle
of our passing

be mourned among
the most faithful devoted
of our unknown
stalkers.

Poem: "Veiled"

"Veiled"

The sun
has long since
faded away

the night sky
is clear
without a single star

rain begins to fall
soaking me
to the bone

I can hear my teeth chatter
in the silence of my feverish mind
as my eyes burn
with the memory

of former indiscretions
of the other men
that have shared our bed

if you have ever loved me
my dearest one
let the final blow
be veiled
in the sweetness
of your aching lips.

Poem: "Gone"

"Gone"

The light shimmers
against your face
it seems like forever
since we have shared
the same space

I have missed you so
the way you laugh
how you eyes dance
when you smile

the softness of your hair
the warmth of you
against me

I found the your letter
this morning
after making coffee
nearly spilled the cup
and burned the toast

it read:

"my dearest,

This is so hard
for me to do
but we both know
in my heart

that it's the right thing
the only way
to save you
from a life of emptiness
and shame"

so now, here I am
in the solace
of this fragile moment
if I must move on

without you
forgive me
if my stubborn heart
clings to you ever still

but now
forever
gone.

Poem: "Lovelorn"

"Lovelorn"

If the beautiful canyons
and vistas of nature
shall fade and cease
with new break of day

if the perfect blue
of the ocean shall become
a reeking graveyard
of stinking horror

if the day comes
when death comes
to meet my imperfect
body

if I ever had to say
the words
that would break your heart
and ruin the world
as we knew it

know that
as I stand here
alone
under the weeping willow
of memory and loss

I would never
let you
go.

Poem: "Beauty and Fade"

"Beauty and Fade"

Your arms draped
on my naked chest
last night
wrapped in fragrance
and lust

your lips met mine
the heat in the room
intoxicating
the intersection
of mutual longing
undeniable

in the morning
I found you
standing alone
by the window

as tears fell
on your soft face
I touched your cheek
kissed you once

as we watched
one final sunrise
before the parting
forever caught

in the shimmering death
of beauty and fade.

Poem: "Embrace"

"Embrace"

The shadow
of the night
illuminates
the corners
of my deliberate mind

sleep comes and goes
like a phantom
waiting to rip
my insides to shreds

taunting me
tempting me
pushing me

towards the edge
of the abyss
as my heart stops
a fateful moment

if you the skies
thunder and rain
may you not shield
your eyes

from the beautiful ocean
your fucking lies have become
my sweetest decline.

Poem: "140"

"140"

You have lied
stolen my innocence
broken my heart
as the autumn leaves
fall slowly to the ground

I wake to the new day
the bed is empty
the fragrance of you
lingers on the pillow

it has been days
since you left
this room
this tiny
fragile space

has become nothing
devoid of warmth
and need
in the aftermath
of love's passing

will you still
hold me against
the wind

only to save me
from the inevitable
unraveling?

Poem: "The Dragon"

"The Dragon"

He smiles
inside the pit
of his stomach

it seethes
twisting
writhing
burning

the light of the moon
radiates against her skin
silently illuminating
her pain

the kiss lingers
as the moment
inevitable
passes

the intersection
of unbridled passion
awakens the dragon
within.

Poem: "Chaste"

"Chaste"

I don't believe God
she says, smiling
Eve got a bad break
she tells herself

as she gets up
and puts her makeup on
a shade of pale red lipstick
cocktail dress that hugs her curves
and her dark hair is down
falling softly past her shoulders

she smiles
as she looks in the mirror
admiring the woman
she has become

the door bell rings
she feels butterflies
in her stomach
and the warmth of
her anticipation

intoxicating
as she opens the door
and gazes upon her beloved's face

she is taken
in the silence
of beautiful places

a secret common ground
where the fire
still burns
ever brightly still.

Poem: "A Lover's Prayer"

"A Lover's Prayer"

I was home
the night it happened
sitting on the couch
waiting in the dark

you came in
with another man
went up the stairs
leading him by the hand

The empty pit in my stomach
burned with regret and anger
causing me to clench my fists
and grit my teeth

How could you?
I did not sleep that night
somewhere inside
I could feel my heart shatter

I went up the stairs
to get my things the next day
and caught you with him
in bed

On the ride home
you fell asleep next to me
like a fool, I put my arms
around you

Outside, I saw crows fly overhead

May God grant them a better
Fate than
what karma has coming for you.

Poem: "The Killer"

"The Killer"

When the dust has settled
and the screams of agony
has subsided
the moonlight shining

He reaches out
and opens the trunk
gazing at her
lifeless body

How she adored him
with his ocean blue eyes
and disarming smile

The woman now gone
burned brightly
like a dying star
streaking across the sky

Her face
now bruised
her body
now battered

As he draws his gun
still smoking
putting the barrel
to his head

He shuts his eyes
and allows a smile
to creep along the corners
of his mouth

Dropping to his knees
he pulls the triggers
and waits for
death's embrace

Like an impatient lover
he swoons in brutal reply.

Poem: "Ever After"

"Ever After"

Part I:

SHE

I have been waiting
all night
amid the rain
and the veiled tears

My insides hurt
the warmth inside
threatens to spill out

Have grown lonely
in this tiny room
with its bare walls

Your face etched
in my mind
no, my darling
I would be loathe
to forget

If I dare hold
you in my arms again
amid the roar
of desperate sirens

Would you dare choose
to love me amid the devils
and forsake eternal beauty
as angels weep?

Part II:

HE

You are
the shadow
lingering in silence
tempting me
taunting my former resolve

The sweetness
of your fragrance
betrays the cold steel
of your eyes

If I could forsake
everything I've ever known
in my brokenness
and constant shame

I would take the keys of heaven
and lay them down at your feet
I shall wait for your return
consume me
lest I fall prey
overcome by the solace
of despair and beautiful agony.

Poem: "Temptation"

"Temptation"

The distance widens
between what was
and what is

the clock reads 2 a.m.
it is dark outside
and she is stuck in bed
restless

clinging onto the pillow
in a futile attempt
to spare her
from present despair

she gets up
and slips on
her favorite red skirt
high heels

she leaves her hair down
"It's much prettier that way,"
her ex used to tell her

inside, she seethes
anger and regret
churn her stomach

she reaches
for a cigarette
in her purse

lighting up
she takes
a long drag

and looks out
the open window
as the rain pours down

she smiles to herself
"Maybe tonight I will,"
she says
with a glimmer in her eye

as she heads out the door
into the beautiful unknown
daring to tempt Fate
one final time.

Poem: "Infatuation"

"Infatuation"

The barrel of a .22 revolver
sleek, black, beautiful
the gun lays untouched
on the kitchen table

the anticipation
of the impending doom
that lies now at her feet

butterflies in her stomach
she gets up and goes to the window
her face gaunt, her eyes afire

she gets up slowly
and retrieves the gun
caressing it like a lover

she hears a voice inside urging her
"you know what you must do,"
she smiles as she puts the last bullet
into the chamber
and puts the .22 to her head

her hands are sweaty
her mouth parched
anticipating the moment
as the inevitable must
come to pass

she gently pulls the trigger
aching for the world to fade away
as thunder rings into her ears
sirens blare in the distance

her infatuation has come full circle.

Poem: "Prey"

"Prey"

The memory of you
still lingers in the recesses
of my tortured brain

the fragrance of you
still clings to the sheets
every time I lay to sleep

late nights spent
sharing coffee
watching you smile
as we talked about
nothing in particular

the way you looked
against the moonlight
luminous and dangerous
with a sultry gleam
in your eye

what we have
is reduced to dust now
in the aftermath
lost in the endless seams
of promises unkept

the night I caught you
in bed
with my sister

did you like it
when I walked in
and she had you
bent over
on the aching bed?

how I spent sleepless nights
awake while you were out
showing the world how much
of a woman you really were

if fate intends despair
and love must fade away
let ours streak across the sky
and reach its noble end

as I sit alone in the room
we once shared
know that I still love you

you are out there
in the shadows
watching me

a huntress waiting
to consume
her prey.

Poem: "Fragile"

"Fragile"

Rain on the windowsill
as the radio blares
struggling to get
these words out

before there is no time left
they are all I have
that is still mine

pictures of you
on the walls
sometimes, if I close my eyes

I can still feel the subtle warmth
beneath your veiled contempt
"It is over now," my mind
is quick to say

but my heart clings to you
ever still, in the silence
that comes between dreams and sleep

the flames of your betrayal
have scarred me
the empty spaces
will never be whole again

if you must go
remember that I
was the mess
you chose to leave behind

in your darkest hour
in your most intimate of moments
I wish you well

may you never be the same
again.

Poem: "Interlude"

"Interlude"

He had been watching her
for days on end
the woman has been on his mind
ever since he saw her
walking alone in the rain
under the eerie silence
of glittering street lights

she has been getting strange calls
amidst tossing and turning
caught midstream
in a wave of the jagged landscape
such a fragile, tortured mind

she goes beside the window
the moonlight shines brightly
against her luminous skin

such a beautiful creature
she lies in bed
and imagines the sweetness
of her lover's lips as they brush
ever so gentle against her aching mouth

the warmth of his body intertwined with hers
is denied this fateful night
as he waits outside
the downpour soaks him to the bone

the lingering fragrance of what was
desperately seeks her out
as he walks away without a word
his love for her unrequited.

Poem: "The Crash"

"The Crash"

Sparks flew as the car hit the guard rail
the same scene replays
just before the moment of impact
as the car ignites and explodes

every moment fades to black

miles away, a son wakes up
to the news that his father
barely escaped an ignoble end

it is December now
in the young man's mind
a car hits a patch of ice as it
careens off the road and
into an embankment
landing viciously in a ditch

time plays in slow motion
there are screams, there is blood
all is cold

the sirens are approaching
in the distance as snow and sun
silently watch

there are tears
and the solitary sound of
desperately beating hearts
waiting to escape.

Poem: "Shadows"

"Shadows"

It is past midnight
he cannot sleep
lying in bed
alone again tonight

outside, the city lights
glitter and cast an eerie glow
as nameless faces walk by

he turns on the light
and grabs her picture
off the dresser

he closes his eyes
and imagines she is there
next to him in bed

her vibrant smile
her lushly painted lips
her lumonious skin

every lovely part
permanently etched in his mind
he decides that tonight
he will unsettle the dust

even though she cannot fathom
such devotion lost in the shadows.

Poem: "Shine"

"Shine"

Ghosts have invaded
the former hallowed space of
my brain in the hours of the
early morning
when I dare to close my eyes
and drift off into
another foray of numbness

the moonlight radiates
a beautiful glow
as the hours pass
you watch silently
barely touching your toes

outside, birds begin to chirp and chatter
morning will be here soon with her garish
light

I don't care to eat
or drink
or smoke a drag from
a cigarette

it is almost too much for me to bear
when you always seem to leave at an opportune time
all I ever wanted was to tell you
how much I wanted us to just stay
together in the here and now
if only for a while

but I could never mouth the words
long enough to still the desperate sirens
of my forlorn heart.

Poem: "Bending The Loop"

"Bending The Loop"

She stands alone
closing her eyes
she imagines herself

clad in black
her brown hair
pulled back
the dress accentuates
every lovely curve

"I am fat," she says
to no one in particular
"I am a whore," she protests
still, no one seems to listen

she lost her father
the dear man she loved
she was raped twice
in the same day
her cries for help lost

still, somewhere in the world
there is a boy
locked in his room
wrapped in loathing and desperate straits

he reaches out to her
"Come and stay awhile," he gently whispers
his hands tremble at the thought of her
of the embrace and the oncoming rush of warmth
and understated vulnerability

"No," she counters, "I would not, dear boy,"
her voice firm with intention
the boy weeps silently
in his soul, forcing a smile

she takes the boy by the hand
and kisses him ever so softly
on trembling lips
whispering all the while

"how I love you despite my better nature."
two kindred spirits barely hanging onto a thread.

Poem: "Into The Nothing"

"Into The Nothing"

Enough of this
the sunlight is gone now
though it is still only midday
the blood runs cold

coughing, reeling, spitting
uttering blasphemy
to the unseen Power

as pain rises from the depths
of my wretched bones
I reach out for your hand
as you lay face down on the ground

with life's unseamly grasp slowly
slipping away
as the sirens blare
off in the distance

the smoking gun
parched lips split apart
in a wide toothed grin

anticipating the encircling vultures overhead
into the abyss where beautiful despair
shall wait like an old lover nevermore scorned.

Poem: "The Parting"

"The Parting"

Standing the doorway
this should not be
if this must end

let me be the one to bleed
nothing left flowing in my veins
my brain betrays me

there is no starting over
the divide has become too great
I am the shadow
that haunts the night

while you sleep comfortably
in the memory of longing
the grip threatens to overtake you

I do not wish to be saved
from whatever dismal fate
the serpent may cast

after the fall
you stand over me
reaching out to touch my cheek
and with a final kiss

you whispered as you left,
"You should have known better."

Poem: "The Smoldering"

"The Smoldering"

Amid the burning wreckage
as my body is wracked with pain
as the heart beats slower
creeping its way
to embrace an unknown fate

you reach out to me
calling my name
trying somehow desperately
to revive my spirit

as I feel life's grip slip away
like beautiful leaves in the autumn wind
the sting of tears blinds your eyes
for a moment

hold me close
in your fervent embrace
lying alone in the highway
under the blazing heat
of the merciless sun

safer to leave now
and allow the better
of your natures
to bridge the gap.

Poem: "The Future Prince"

"The Future Prince"

Cloaked in armor
he stands, a solitary figure
the feel of newly green glass
under his feet

In the distance, he hears
the subtle roar of oncoming death
he is neither afraid nor remorseless

raising his sword, he charges
into the fray
the memory of his long dead father
the former hero king
burning into his tender ears

inside, he trembles
the prince, this fair haired
perfect boy of a man

driven by duty, cautioned by love
and devoted to revenge's subtle lure
he has become her faithful servant

in the distance, his rival
the dark haired demon ghost
tests his resolve

when life has lost
its former luster
and love has bled dry

the young man, bound by honor
will seek out to meet his fate
although darkness has descended
the world still exists, far and wide

embracing desperation
in a perpetual dance
amid the howling of
the lost and the damned

back to the restless dust
whence they came.

Poem: "The Forever Queen"

"The Forever Queen"

The battle is over
the field drenched in sweat
and littered with blood

a dream, the same awful nightmare
the queen wakens to the intruding light
of breaking day

the queen, young and virtuous, is alone
beauty's touch on her radiant, pure face
as her soft hair falls about her shoulders

the baby inside her is restless
rebelling already against the embracing warmth
of her womb

the future prince destined
to never know the courage
of his father, struck down
a cold dish to satisfy
the whims of enemy's revenge

"Oh how I loved you, darling," she sobbed
falling to her knees as she cradled his lifeless head
and gazed deeply into the dead king's empty, forlorn eyes

The queen raises her head and cocks her head
to listen to the barely audible rhythms of the earth
as she runs her hand softly over her belly
desperately longing for the embrace of her
valiant and brave savior.

Poem: "The Solitary King"

"The Solitary King"

The fervent raging within my heart
has ceased
as the lark begins to sing
a mournful lullaby

death cannot overtake
the love that I hold for you
as the sun burns down
in menacing radiance

the night, with its subtle breath,
speaks in hushed tones
if you shall cry fervent tears
remember, my love
lest you should ever forget:

what we have shared
has survived war and woe
sun and shade
the owl and the nightingale

when I shall draw
life's last fateful gasp
when the glory of my present flesh
has lost its allure

let God buy my bones
deep into the encircling earth
allow the lingering sweetness of
your divine screams
be the lingering knell

ringing in my rotting, deafening ears.

Poem: "The Dividing Line"

"The Dividing Line"

He walked into the bar
it was smoky, crowded
countless fleeting faces
it has been ages

since the last time
of his inevitable dying

she was sitting at a nearby table
alone, luminous in her apparent despair
over the whole situation
she had cried so much
the mascara had run down her face

"Buy you a drink, honey?," he asked quietly
as he took a seat across from her
Nodding her head, she slid her glass toward him

Inside, she was seething
Hands shaking to the point
that she wanted to slap him

Still, she wanted to kiss him
Imagining how the moonlight
shone, illuminating a hidden desperation

As the bells rang for the final time,
signalling a forlorn glimpse
damned are the uninvited.

Poem: "The Dark Ones"

"The Dark Ones"

- for Buko.

dear ________,

she walked down
the narrow street
moonlight hitting her face
something inside

gnawing, festering
like a black widow
crawling
spinning
a beautiful web

the homeless guy
in the ripped shirt
and dirty jeans

is thinking obscene thoughts
as he watches her walk
a brother and sister run along
oblivious in their game
of hide and seek

she longs her a cigarette
it's been months since
she's been kissed
in the back seat
of a stranger's
vintage '57 Cadillac

"If only I had chosen to wear lace tonight," she said
wistfully under a lonely, glittering
street light.

Poem: "Fleeting"

"Fleeting"

- for Buko.

dear ______,

I have been stuck
in this cramped room
hunched over
the typewriter
you sent me unwrapped
three Christmas' ago

trying to find the words
sometimes your voice
floats in my head
just before sleep arrive

the cabinets are bare
my chest feels like
a thousand rotten butterflies

the sweetest decline
of modern civilization
has been the institution
of high rise dishwashers

the words threaten to overtake
my delicate fingers
should I stay here
and surrender to the inglorious
bastards who stalk
like living shadows

ever so subtle
into the fray?
