Poem: "Gone"

"Gone"

The light shimmers
against your face
it seems like forever
since we have shared
the same space

I have missed you so
the way you laugh
how you eyes dance
when you smile

the softness of your hair
the warmth of you
against me

I found the your letter
this morning
after making coffee
nearly spilled the cup
and burned the toast

it read:

"my dearest,

This is so hard
for me to do
but we both know
in my heart

that it's the right thing
the only way
to save you
from a life of emptiness
and shame"

so now, here I am
in the solace
of this fragile moment
if I must move on

without you
forgive me
if my stubborn heart
clings to you ever still

but now
forever
gone.
