Poem: "Losing"

"Losing"

Empty coffee cup
stale air of defeat
pride is failing
death is so inviting

Gone are the days
when we were young
and life was so full of
dreams and yearning

Life is a shadow
of misguided steps
not so carefully taken
stumbling towards
finality

Reaching out for you
so far away now
as I close my eyes
wishing to be taken

Giving up seems like
such a perfect escape.

The one you wake up next to
every morning
the spring in your step
the song in your heart

The sky, the stars
and every beautiful thing
in the world

The thought that
you can't get out of your mind
the one desire you can't get enough of

The love that you've always wanted

These are just some of the things
I want to be for you
someday.

"The Light"

The warmth of sunshine on your bare skin
the way you lie against me
the shape of your smile
the scent of your perfume as it lingers in the air
long after you've gone

The emptiness now
makes my bones ache
and the memories of
unbridled need and passion
ended too soon

Your breath
as the light shines
one final time
and eternity embraces you
like a long lost lover

As I watch silently
my heart breaks
into a million
pretty little fragments.
